About Us

Our Story

When Ground Coffee Society first opened its doors in late 2009, it wasn’t just about the coffee. Dave (owner & founder) was a professional drummer, and had toured and played for many years of his life. So he opened a drum shop with a twist; amazing coffee!

After realising the queues going out the door weren't for the drums but for the caffeine on offer, Dave made the easy decision to clear out the drums and focus on the coffee...

As years went by, word spread like wildfire that Putney was on the London coffee map. By now Ground Coffee Society was at the heart of Putney’s community, with coffee loving Aussie’s and Kiwi’s travelling for miles for their daily caffeine fix. Little to did Dave know, one of those individuals was one of the UK directors of the Westfield group, who went on to offer Ground Coffee Society a short term space at the all new Westfield shopping centre at Stratford City for London’s 2012 Olympic games. This made us the most popular coffee spot throughout the games.

Now, 10 years on, we are proud to supply and work with world renowned sporting events within motorsport, sailing, tennis, golf, cricket and rugby; restaurants and cafés; and high end fixed venues.

Our Roastery

In 2014 we made a bold move to invest in a Giesen W15 coffee roasting machine, giving us absolute control over the roasting process of our coffee, and the supply of our own product. Under the guidance of some of London’s finest coffee roasting experts, we managed to successfully set up our first coffee roasting facility in Wandsworth. Two years on after relocating our roasting facility to our new Bicester roasting and distribution warehouse, our team now roast and pack over 1200kg per week.

Our regular house blend ‘Caveman’ is on offer all year round, which is used as the base of arguably one of London’s most loved flat whites. This is accompanied by seasonal specialty single origin coffees for both espresso and lightly roasted filter for the coffee connoisseur in you. Our coffee is roasted in Bicester with absolute precision, everyday in small batches. We then package every bag by hand ensure the finest quality. Roasting coffee in small batches allows us to send freshly roasted coffee every week to all of our customers. We then stamp our bags with ‘roasted on’ date, as well as a recommended ‘use by’ date.
